Margaret Schmidt began Inviting Ideas in 1994 following many years of study and experience including the two-year “Certificate of Calligraphy” from RMIT, two-year “Love of Letters” course with Jill Colebatch and a continuing addiction to workshops with visiting international and local calligraphers.
Having created and sold cards, signature books and photo albums at the Hawthorn Craft Market, a range of calligraphic cards evolved and are sold commercially. Margaret is also the in-house calligrapher at the card and gift shop “Paper Occasions” at The Glen Shopping Centre on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.
Margaret has been involved in a number of exhibitions in conjunction with other Melbourne calligraphers and has taught for The Calligraphy Society of Victoria, The Council of Adult Education, and Templestowe and Doncaster Arts Centres. She enjoys teaching calligraphy and currently runs classes from her studio in East Burwood.
Having strengths in both the Wedding and Corporate areas, her calligraphy has developed to span from the traditional to creative contemporary styles.
Margaret is currently President of The Calligraphy Society of Victoria.
